Why I Hve Not Written Sooner

Sorry that I haven't written in a long time.  Things have just been crazy!  In December I went to the doctor with what I thought was the beginning of a cold/bronchitis or something.  The nurse took my pulse - looked at me and said - bet you'll be in the hospital in an hour - and left the room.  She returned with the doctor within seconds and he listened to my heart - put on the preassure cup and asked how I was feeling.  I told him other than feeling like I was coming down with a cold o.k.  He told me my pulse rate was 39 and I was going to the hospital.  They had already called an ambulance.  I walked to the elevator with the ambulance personnel and the nurse.
At the hospital and several test later they thought it was medication and made some changes after 24 hours they decided that had not made a difference.  I needed a pacemaker so the next day that;s what I had done.  About two days later they said I could go home.  Everything looked good.  I did spend about 5 days in the hospital.
You know sometimes you don't know how bad you feel until you start to feel better.  It has taken me several months to really feel like myself.  I have had to go the the doctor for my pacemaker a few times for a check up and had the pacemaker monitored by phone once so far.  The bad thing about going to the doctor is that we live about 25 miles away so your whole day is pretty much shot.  At first the trips wiped me out.
There is more but that is enought for now - have a good holiday!

Keeping up with Family History

With any great undertaking the secret is not to get overwhelmed. Family history is the same way. Don’t take on more than you can do. The last thing you want to do is add stress to your already busy life. So get help from the rest of family, it’s their history too.

One thing you can do is to sit down one time a year and write a family newsletter. This can be done around Christmas time and send out with Christmas cards. Take the time to include every member of your family. Talk about all the neat experiences or adventures each person has had over the year. Keep this letter in a binder adding each year as it goes by. This will give you something you can look back on. If you have time you may want to try doing this every three months or maybe every month.

With the technology we have today a lot of family history is kept on the computer. This is a good place to keep photos you have taken of family events. You can keep a great history through photos. Try to write a little something about each photograph or about the event. Then when you look back you can recall what the photo is about. The last thing you want is a bunch of photos and no idea what the event was. If you like scrap booking you can add your own personal touch by adding little trinkets to each page.

One thing to keep in mind is the family history you make is not for you. It is for the next generation and the next after that. It will give them a chance to get to know you and maybe learn from some of your experiences.

What is Genealogy?

Genealogy is checking ancestry one generation at a time. It can be as simple as a name, date of birth, date of marriage, children, date of death or these details can be expanded into a family history. Many times it is made up almost entirely of the male members of the family because in the early days of record keeping women were not often recorded. This gets harder as you go back more generations since it doubles with each generation.

To begin your search you will need to print out some genealogy charts from the internet. These have blank spots for names, spouses, children as well as birth dates and places. There are many good genealogy sites on the internet and many of them allow searches. You can post your genealogy on the internet so that if someone else is researching the same family you can pool the information you have. You will also want to print out or buy a family tree chart. These come in many forms from a basic tree to some very fancy charts.

In many countries where they have kings and queens the genealogy is very important. In many countries only males can be heirs to a throne. A king wishes to have a son to be heir to the throne since he feels the son is more of a continuation of himself. Looking back in history we find several kings who had their wives beheaded because they brought forth a female child instead of a male. In several countries even today genealogy plays a large part in who will be heir to the throne.

Genealogy

Have you ever wondered where your family came from, who you might be related to or what your family history is? If you have, you may be interested in genealogy. Genealogy is the study of one's ancestry and the tracing of their family history. It can be a career or just a fun past time. Most people work on their genealogy in their spare time as a hobby, but there are many genealogists out there who work to help others find genealogical records or who publish books on genealogical research methods.

There are many websites available to help the average person begin to research their family history. They are there to help you begin your research, find the meaning behind your surname, start family trees, or define confusing terms. For example, what is a second cousin twice removed? These sites will help you define and determine who that person, or people, are in your life.

Creating a family tree is a great activity to do with your own family. It will teach your children who is in their family, how they all relate to each other, and where it is that they came from. It can be fun for everyone in the family to get together and sort through pictures and heirlooms, as well as interview older family members to help create a time line of the family's history. The pictures will be great for putting together a physical family tree for everyone to enjoy and add to for years to come.
