Some of us have not had the privilege of knowing our grandparents due to several situations that life has brought. In the old days you could climb on Gramps lap and he would tell you all you wanted to know. Today some don't know a lot about their family because they don't see them often enough and when they get married they move away making it even harder to stay in touch with each other. But we do have places to go like libraries and court houses to check up on our relatives.
If you have a name and a place of birth or death you can usually find the rest of the family tree and even go back as far as the 1600s. The computer is also a very good source for finding out what you want to know about your family. You could send for birth and death certificates which supply a lot of information. Also if you have a date of death you can check the local paper for an obituary notice which supplies aunts and uncles cousins etc. You should take a lot of pictures because they make the person more real then just having a name. When you can see a face and put a name to it, it just makes it mean so much more. So start now in collecting memories for your children to pass on to their kids and go back as far as you can. You will be surprised at how much you can learn about your family and you may even find a relative who crossed the Delaware with Washington.
