Family Trees

Researching your family history with the idea of drawing up a family tree can be an interesting, frustrating and lengthy process. In the long run however, it can be a very valuable asset indeed.

There are many things in this life that are created by things that happened in the past, which can be tracked. One of the most important is health issues. Why has a specific illness popped up at this stage in your life and how did you get it? A family tree could help you decipher this. There could be a long history of that particular illness for generations in your family line. Another reason it is important to check out your history is to know what traits you may be passing on to your children.

Building a family tree can be done in a couple of different ways. You may want to trace only who you are descendant from or you may want to trace the lineage of your surname. There are a multitude of websites available online to help you trace your family. The best and most complete is probably the one done by The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints (Mormons) in Salt Lake City. Their date bank is updated monthly. It will have the very latest information available at any given time.

When picking a site to work with in your search, be sure and check if they have a fee for their services. If you are on a budget, you may not be willing to pay for information. Be sure and find this out before you have committed to it.

Gather all information that you already have on your ancestors, even the smallest details, and sort through it putting it in date sequence. Thereafter, you should be ready to start building your very own family tree.
