Genealogy is an account of the descent of a person or family through an ancestral line. The best account of an ancestral line is through a grandparent. Everyone wants to know about their family history. People want to know if their ancestors were slaves, share-croppers, immigrants, cowboys or Indians. Heritage can be an important aspect of each generation. Family trees have been developed through research, however, much of the information we need to know can be obtained from grandparents. Grandparents usually talk about their lives as children. Children listen attentively as they speak of their education, recreation, lifestyles, and achievements. Storytelling is one of their specialties, and the memories they share links us to the past.
With such a multi-ethnic culture, it is also important to have knowledge of any health problems in the family. Sickle-cell disease, high blood pressure, cancers, diabetes, and other debilitating diseases are major health concerns that may be passed through generations.
Grandparents’ love and attention also attributes to the child’s well-being, as they share in their nurturing. That love and affection will continue to their own children and beyond. Some families live in different cities, states and even countries. Staying in touch can be as easy as a telephone call, letter, or e-mail. Grandparents love receiving pictures and cards that show their grandchild’s development. Family reunions can bring many relatives of all ages together. However, the presence of grandparents is always the center of attraction. They are the first to be acknowledged and are given genuine respect.
The historical makeup is essential to your families’ growth. In addition to the unconditional love you gain, there us no doubt that they are the portals of your life.
