The internet has numerous genealogy sites and libraries that one could visit and all you need is a name and a birth date. You could find any information from any site that does family searches. At one time you only had the census to help you but today you can connect with real live kin on the web and even get pictures of your great great grandfather.

Most of your cities have little family history places where a person took the time to hand write all the families in a town like: Where they came from, how many children they had, and where they are buried. Some libraries have books on the county and of all the prominent names of the people who migrated there. You just have to know where your family originated from and take it from there. Family history is a fascinating thing to get into. There are a lot of libraries that specialize in keeping family records of the entire city and you have a lot of records in all of the Court Houses as well.
